Saudi Dog Taboo

The Saudi Arabia Religious Police has prohibited the sale of cats and dogs and their public exposure, stating as reason men's frequent use of household pets for making open advances to women.

The Chair of the Commission for Vice Prevention stated before the media that the measure was in accordance with the old religious law and is now in full effect.

The prohibition follows the last month decision of the Saudi Prince Satam Ibn Abdul Aziz, which has been accepted by the Vice Prevention Commission.

The Commission's Chair had not cited any other reasons for the prohibition of the household pets in his country except their use by Saudi men to court women.
